Venice square, Pantheon, Hadrianeum, Column of Marcus Aurelius, Trevi Fountain, Spagna square
The Pantheon, a temple built by the Emperor Hadrian, its construction has influenced the history of architecture, dedicated to all the Gods in 608 it was transformed into a church and what is preserved of the structure, inside the most famous tombs of Italian history between artists and King. We will continue with Hadrianeum, the temple was erected in honor of Emperor Hadrian deified after his death. It is likely that the yard of the building had already been started under Hadrian himself to dedicate it to his wife Vibia Sabina, dead and deified in 136, we will continue where we will see the Column of Marcus Aurelius made after 180 (Marcus Aurelius date of death ), and before the 196 (as in an inscription we know that the caretaker in charge of it, named Adrastus, obtained permission to use the scaffolding of wood to build a house: the work was therefore terminated) it narrates the wars of Marcus Aurelius against Germanic tribes of Quadi Marcomanni and Sarmatians, we will continue to Trevi Fountain, designed by Nicola Salvi in the eighteenth century (the works were completed, however, by Giuseppe Pannini) and it was inaugurated in 1735, where a stop is a must to toss a coin in the fountain as a traditional ritual: with your back to the fountain and eyes closed with your right hand you toss the coin over your left shoulder .. so legend says that the return to Rome is guaranteed. The Virgin water according to a legend is the source of the fountain, in Salone, about 20 km away where exhausted soldiers of Agrippa drank from when returning to Roma (19 d.C). The source had been indicated by a virgin, perhaps on the trail of the legend of the Agrippa soldiers who began to argue that those who had been drinking this water would have always returned to Rome, and so, until a few decades ago, it is said that here took place a little secret ritual, girls would make their boyfriends drink the water from the fountain before their departure. The tour will continue to the nearby Spagna square which takes its name from the palace of Spain, Embassy of the Spain of the Vatican with its monumental staircase of 135 steps, commissioned by Cardinal de Tencin, it was inaugurated by Pope Benedict XIII in the Jubilee of 1725; it was realized (thanks to the French financing of 1721-1725) to connect the Spanish Embassy to the Trinita dei Monti church.
