The Port of Rome and the Roman Colony

The ancient town of Ostia is an example of the imperial city that has remained almost intact, it came to light in 1942 to give us more knowledge about its rich Roman houses with paintings, its inns its holy sites of what was a Pagan Rome, First Roman colony founded, according to a legend, in the seventh century BC from the Roman King Anco Marzio, it was particularly developed in imperial times as a commercial center and port, closely linked to the Annona (wheat supply for the capital) Ostia Ancient along with Pompeii is the largest archaeological site in the world with an area of 150 hectares, and only 40% of it has been brought to light and more than half of the city is still buried. Ostia was the first Roman colony, became immediately a river port acquiring a commercial function to supply Rome with food, even if its strategic military function as naval base certainly prevailed.
