Vatican Area Historical notes
At the end of the fourteenth century to the end of the "Avignon captivity" there was an impulse to create new buildings near the Basilica of St. Peter, which would house a permanent basis for the pope and his court. At the end of the fifteenth century the popes called all the greatest artists of that time to carry out works that still attract millions of visitors to Rome, masterpieces destined to remain immortal works that tell the faith, mythology, cultural climate of that time.
